John, Jill and Chaucer at log house

John and Jill Parker live in Nashville, Tennessee, and both teach at Lipscomb University, an intentionally Christian university connected with the churches of Christ.  They worship at nearby Granny White church of Christ where John has served as an elder for over ten years.  John is an English professor and specializes in Shakespeare, British literature and early American literature. He is a gospel minister, mainly working as an interim minister who serves congregations for a few months as their regular pulpit minister when they are between full-time regular ministers. This very fulfilling work enables the Parkers to work in many areas throughout middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Jill enjoys learning everyone’s name and together they serve the congregation to replace the regular minister and his wife, a great and powerful partnership.

John and Jill also travel and present seminars on all kinds of topics, and especially those relating to Powerful Partners.  A marriage seminar was conducted at the Springfield Gardens church of Christ in November of 2008. Presently a seminar on the powerful partnership of the church leader and his wife is scheduled for March 15-17, 2011.  See materials on this website that will address both topics.

The Parkers love mission work.  John is the elder in charge of missions at his local congregation. Both find it very fulfilling to travel to mission fields all over the world and to assist in whatever way is needed to encourage the mission preacher and also the Christians at those locations.

The Parkers have a son Robert, who lives and works in the Washington, D.C. area with his wife Bria.  Daughter Sharon is a Nashvillian and works there.  She is a marvelous cook, with such a natural talent to amaze with baking and other meal preparations that are both delicious and dazzling.  Custom cakes are high on the list.  The Parkers have a secluded farm in Hickman County, Tennessee, where they go on weekends to relax and for John to write.

John is well-known for his 2009 book Abide with Me–A Photographic Journey through Great British Hymns, a compilation of photographs and enticing stories about our favorite hymns, many of which had British writers.  Think Amazing Grace, Rock of Ages, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and Abide with Me. Take your own spiritual journey through the pastoral English countryside as you read the stories and view the breath-taking photos. Listen to the songs on accompany CD, prepared by The Jordanaires’ Ray Walker.  See
